Launched in 2025, Bluebells & Heather is a Glasgow-based traditional music duo with an ever-expanding repertoire of folk songs from the British Isles. A shared love of storytelling lies at the heart of Bluebells' sound, which combines a gentle blend of voices, guitar and harp.

MEET THE DUO

Angelique

Angelique Celine is a singer and guitarist whose music draws from traditional and classical roots. Angelique is currently studying Vocal Studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on the Continuing Education program, having recently graduated from an MA in Psychology in the Arts (Music). Influenced by traditional singers such as Margaret Bennett, she is deeply inspired from the folklore and music of Scottish tradition.

After having completed a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre at the Scottish Institute of Dance, Theatre and Film, she received multiple awards, including Outlander actor Sam Heughan’s Write Start, to develop a historical musical exploring Scottish immigration and identity in the United States. Her research for the project led her to the Gaelic summer school Ceòlas, where she studied step dance and Gaelic song, additionally incorporating small pipes with singing into her music.

Beyond her performances with Bluebells & Heather, Angelique is preparing to release her debut album Yesterday and Tomorrow (2026), which weaves together her experiences of American folk with her interpretations of modern Scottish traditional music. Her versatility extends to the stage and screen, from performing as Tessa in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre to leading roles in short films.

Isla Hallewell is a harpist and vocalist whose music weaves together Scottish folk tradition with classical training. Currently studying a joint BMus in harp and voice at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Isla has rediscovered a deep connection to the clarsach, inspired by Scottish traditional music.

Beyond her work with Bluebells, Isla is a founding member of the world folk band Mother Tongues, and additionally regularly performs with ensembles including the RCS Symphony Orchestra and RCS Choir. Her versatility as a performer has led her from leading roles in opera—most recently Jonathan Dove’s The Enchanted Pig with Bedfordshire Young Opera (2025)—to premieres of new works by contemporary composers. She was also a member of the Scottish Opera Young Company (2023–24).

Isla’s artistry has been recognised with numerous awards, including the Dewar Arts Award (2025), the Euing Prize for History Form and Analysis (2025), and third place in the Hugh S Robertson Prize for Scots Song (2024). She has also been supported in her studies through scholarships from both the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Junior RNCM.
